As a general rule, the only information stored in a .itl file is created by the user listening to the file and interacting with it in different ways. If none of these programs sound like logical candidates for software that you're likely to be using, it could be that the file was mislabeled and was not originally a .itl file at all. On the other hand if you're sure that, for example, you're supposed to be working with a certain type of file like an iTunes library file because your friend clearly identified and shared it, and you've followed the correct steps to open the file but you still get no result or an error when the action is taken it is likely that you are in possession of a corrupt file, meaning that it has been damaged in some way. If you think that this may be the case and want to eliminate that possibility, retransmit the file, if necessary from a different source, and try again.
